As the 2019 MLB seasons comes to an end, we congratulate the Washington Nationals on a great World Series victory and all of the great teams who played their hearts out this season. Like any season ending the prestigious player award finalists have been announced and there are some fierce competitors this year. Let’s take a look at who has been nominated and what they have accomplished.

Alex Bregman

Team: Houston Astros

MLB Debut: 2016

Alex Bregman is a third baseman for the Houston Astros who got his MLB debut in 2016. He has played for the Astros since then and has racked up a few awards in his MLB career. These awards include 2 all star game appearances and a World Series Championship with the Astros in 2017. Bergman has also represented the United States at the 2014 Haarlem Baseball week and the 2017 Los Angeles World Baseball Classic. He has a .286 batting average with 99 home runs and 320 RBIs as on the end of the 2019 season.

Marcus Semien

Team: Oakland Athletics 

Position:‌‌ SS 

MLB Debut: 2013

Marcus Seiman is a shortstop for the Oakland Athletics who got his MLB start in 2013. When he joined the MLB, he played for the Chicago White Sox before transferring to the Athletics in 2015. Seiman has a current batting average of .256 with 108 home runs and 357 runs batted in. He is hoping to bring home the MVP award to go alongside his Jim "Catfish" Hunter award for which he was awarded in 2019.

Mike Trout

Team: Los Angeles Angels

MLB Debut: 2011

Mike Trout is undoubtedly one of the most popular names in the MLB for 2019. As a center fielder for the Los Angelese Angels, Trout signed the richest contract in all of North American sports history with a 12 year, $426 million contract. Trout is easily one of the MLB's most awarded players with a tremendously long list of awards and achievements. He got his MLB debut in 2011 with the Angels and has played for them ever since. He holds a .305 batting record with 285 home runs, 752 runs batted in, and an astonishing 200 stolen bases.

Gerrit Cole

Team: Houston Astros

MLB Debut: 2013

Gerrit Cole is a starting pitcher for the Houston Astros who began his MLB career in 2013 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has a 94-52 win-loss record with a 3.22 earned run average and 1,336 strikeouts. He has had 3 all star game appearances, was the AL ERA leader, and the MLB strikeout leader in 2019. As of the end of 2019, Cole is a current Free Agent, so we are excited to see what his next move might be for the upcoming 2020 season.

Charlie Morton

Team: Tampa Bay Rays

MLB Debut: 2008

Charlie Morton is a pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, but is no stranger to other teams since his MLB debut in 2008. He began his career with the Atlanta Braves for one season in 2008. He then moved to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a 6 year run, a single season with the Phillies in 2016, a couple of years in Houston for the Astros from 2017-2018, and finally finding home in Tampa in 2019. He currently has a 91-87 win-loss record, a 4.07 earned run average, and has banked 1,234 strikeouts through 2019.

Justin Verlander

Team: Houston Astros

MLB Debut: 2005

Justin Verlander is the starting pitcher for the Houston Astros who has been playing in the MLB since 2005. He got his MLB debut with the Detroit Tigers and played for them up until 2017 before transferring to the Astros. In his career, he has netted 8 all star appearances, a World Series championship, an AL MVP in 2011, an AL CY Young Award in 2011, an ALCS MVP, an AL Rookie of the Year in 2006 and the 2011 Triple Crown. He has also held the title of the 2011 AL Era Leader, multiple MLB winds leader, 5 AL strikeout leader awards, and is a member of the 3,000 strikeout club. Verlander is going to be a tough competitor for the MVP award for this year!

Rookie Of The Year Finalists

Yordan Alvarez

Team: Houston Astros 

Position:‌‌ DH/1B/OF 

MLB Debut: 2019

Yordan Alvarez is a designated hitter, outfielder, and first baseman for the Houson Astros who is in his MLB debut year. He currently holds a .313 batting average and has clocked in an impressive 27 home runs and 78 runs batted in for his first season. Since this is his debut year, Alvarez currently does not hold any titles or awards, but this year could be his first if he wins the rookie of the year. We look forward to seeing how far Alvarez goes and what he has in store for the 2020 season.

Brandon Lowe

Team: Tampa Bay Rays

MLB Debut: 2018

Brandon Lowe is a second baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays who is in his second year in the MLB. He got his major league debut in 2018 with the Rays and has already gotten an All Star appearance in his 2019 season. He currently holds a .259 batting average with 23 home runs and 76 runs batted in. Lowe is definitely going to be a player to watch for the 2020 season and is sure to rack up quite the amount of awards in his future.

John Means

Team: Baltimore Orioles 

Position:‌‌ P

MLB Debut: 2018

Josh Means is a pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles who got his MLB debut in 2018. During his two years in the MLB, Means has gotten a 12-11 win-loss record, a 3.60 earned run average, and has had 121 strikeouts. Since Means is still new to the MLB, he has only gotten one award which was an appearance in the 2019 All Star game. This could help him in the running for the rookie of the year, but nevertheless, it paves the way for a promising career full of future accomplishments.

Manager Of The Year

Rocco Baldelli

Team: Minnesota Twins 

Position:‌‌ Manager 

MLB Debut: 2003

Rocco Baldelli is the current manager for the Miinesota Twins who had his first MLB debut in 2003 with the Tampa Bay Rays. He played for the Rays for most of his MLB career with a small stint with the Boston Red Sox. He has his last MLB appearance in 2010 and has been managing the Twins since 2018. In his inaugural season, the Twins won the American League Central division. He also coached for the Rays before becoming a manager for the Twins.

Aaron Boone

Team: New York Yankees 

Position:‌‌ Manager 

MLB Debut: 1997

Aaron Boone a current manager for the New York Yankees and has had an extensive career within the MLB as a player. As a player, Boone played for teams including the Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Florida Marlins, Washington Nationals, and the Houston Astros. His MLB debut was with the Reds in 1997 with his last MLB appearance being for the Astros in 2009. He has managed the New York Yankees since 2018 and advanced to the American League Division Series in his Inaugural year. In 2019, the Yankees clinched the American League East making Boone the first manager in MLB history to have 100+ winds in each of his first two seasons.

Kevin Cash

Team: New York Yankees

MLB Debut: 2002

Kevin Cash is a current manager for the Tampa Bay Rays who has held this title since 2015. Cash's history includes playing for the Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, and the Boston Red Sox from his 2005-2010 MLB career as a player. He also coached the Cleveland Indians from 2013-2014 before accepting a managers position with the Rays in 2015.

Cody Bellinger is a first baseman and outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers who got his MLB debut in 2017. Bellinger has played for the Dodgers since his debut and has gotten his fair share of accomplishments during his 3 years in the MLB. He currently holds a .278 batting average with 111 home runs and 288 runs batted in. He has had 2 all star game appearances, was the 2017 NL Rookie of the Year, the 2018 NLCS MVP, was awarded a Gold Glove Award in 2019 and Hit for the cycle on July 15, 2017.

Anthony Rendon

Team: Washington Nationals

MLB Debut: 2013

Anthony Rendon is a third baseman for the Washington Nationals who has played for the team since his debut in 2013. Rendon is a current free agent as of the end of 2019, but with the stats he has racked up, we expect to see him picked up very quickly. He holds a .290 batting average with 136 home runs and 546 runs batted in. He has had 1 All Star game appearance, a World Series Championship, a Silver Slugger Award, an NL comeback player of the year, an MLB RBI leader, and a Dick Howser Trophy in 2010.

Christian Yelich

Team: Milwaukee Brewers 

Position:‌‌ OF 

MLB Debut: 2013

Christian Yelich is an outfielder for the Milwaukee Brewers who got his MLB debut in 2013 with the Miami Marlins. Yelich played for the Marlins until 2017 before signing to the Brewers in 2018. Christian currently holds a .301 batting average with 139 home runs, 500 runs batted in, and has stolen 124 bases. His accomplishments and awards include 2 All Star Game appearances, the 2018 NL MVP, a Gold Glove Award, 2 Silver Slugger Awards, 2 NL Hank Aaron Awards, 2 NL Batting Champion awards and 2 Hit for the cycles in 2018.

Jacob deGrom

Jacob deGrom is a pitcher for the New York Mets who has played for the team ever since his MBL debut in 2014. deGrom holds the stats of 66-49 win-loss record, a 2.62 earned run average, and 1,255 strikeouts in his 6 year career. deGrom hold a couple of MLB records including 30 straight starts allowing 3 runs of fewer and he is currently ties for most consecutive strikeouts to start a game, which is 8. He has a few awards under his belt including 3 All Star Game appearances, an NL Cy Young Award, NL Rookie Of The Year, MLB ERA leader, and the NL Strikeout leader in 2019.

Hyun-Jin Ryu

Team: Los Angeles Dodgers

MLB Debut: 2013

Hyn-jin Ryu is a starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but is currently a free agent as of the end of the 2019 season. Ryu has played for the Hanwhat Eagles from 2006-2012 and then for the Dodgers from 2013-2014 and 2016-2019. In 2015, Ryu had a spout of back and shoulder pains which disabled him from playing during this season. He currently holds a 98-52 win=loss record with a 2.80 earned run average and 1,238 strikeouts. In the MLB he has had an All Star appearance and was the 2019 NL ERA leader. When he played for the Korean Baseball Organization, he racked up a considerable amount of awards and achievements as well.

Max Scherzer

Team: Washington Nationals

MLB Debut: 2008

Max Scherzer is a 35 year old starting pitcher for the Washington Nationals. Scherzer has had his fair share of pitching experience since his MLB debut in 2008 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Since that start, he has played for the Detroit Tigers before finding his home in Washington in 2015. Max holds many highlights and awards including 7 all star game appearances, a World Series championship, 3 CY Young awards, 3 NL strikeout leader awards, and 4 winds leader awards. He has pitched two no hitters in his career along with two immaculate innings. Scherzer is currently one of the top 3 highest paid MLB players with a 7 year, $210 million contract.

Rookie Of The Year finalist

Pete Alonso

Team: New York Mets 

Position:‌‌ 1B 

MLB Debut: 2019

Making his first MLB All Star appearance this year, New York Met’s Pete Alonso joins two other teammates for Tuesday’s game. Alonso currently holds a .260 batting average with 53 home runs and 120 runs batted in. Florida born Alonso was drafted to the New York Mets in 2016 where he plays as a first baseman. Alonso also played in the 2018 All Star Game and has won the Joe Bauman Home Run Award as well.

Mike Soroka

Team: Atlanta Braves

MLB Debut: 2018

Mike Soroka is a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves who got his MLB debut in 2018. He currently holds a 15-5 win-loss record with a 2.79 earned run average and 163 strikeouts. He has played with the Braves since 2018 and got his first All Star in 2019. Soroka is easily going to be one that we are going to keep our eyes on going into the 2020 season as his first two years have looked very promising.

Fernando Tatis Jr

Team: Houston Astros

MLB Debut: 2018

Fernando Tatis Jr is a shortstop for the San Diego Padres who is currently finishing up his MLB debut year. Tatis had an impressive start with a .317 batting average, 22 home runs and 53 runs batted in. He entered the MLB in 2018 as one of the top prospects and looking at his current stats, it’s not hard to believe at all. His future is very bright and 2020 should present him with many new chances at securing more awards and achievements.

Manager Of The Year Finalists

Craig Counsell

Team: Milwaukee Brewers 

Position:‌‌ Manager 

MLB Debut: 1995

Craig Counsell is the current manager for the Milwaukee Brewers who has managed the team since 2015. Counsell has a pretty extensive career in the MLB since his debut in 1995. From 1995-2011, Craig played for the Colorado Rockies, Florida Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Milwaukee Brewers. He has two World Series wins under his belt as a player and was the 2001 NLCS MVP.

Mike Shildt

Team: St. Louis Cardinals 

Position:‌‌ Manager 

MLB Debut: 2017

Mike Shildt is the current manager for the St Louis Cardinals where he has called home since coaching the team in 2017. He was a coach for the team until 2018 when he took over as manager where he led them to a 131-95 win-loss record. As one of the only managers on this list without an MLB playing career, he did play baseball in high school and college, but never made it to the minor leagues.

Brian Snitker

Team: Atlanta Braves 

Position:‌‌ Manager 

MLB Debut: 1985

Brian Snitkey is a manager for the Atlanta Braves where he has been a part of the team since 1985. Snitkey got his Braves career started as a coach in 1985. Brian has been a manager for the team since 2016 with a total of 610 games and a 318-292 win-loss record.
